Baby Fluff

Maya spent last night and all day today in FuzziBunz, and it was enough that I’m now pretty close to certain this isn’t the system for us — if nothing else, because of sizing. The borrowed ones I have are smalls, and on the largest thigh-hole, they seem too snug (leaving deep indentations on her legs from the gathers), but I have them on the *smallest* size possible in the waist. Moving up to the medium or petite toddler size, the legs will fit, but I’m betting the waist will be waaaay too big. She’s spending tonight in Huggies.

All of this has gotten me started on a cloth-diapering crusade, though, and now I’m obsessively looking at what other options are out there, including starting “Elimination Communication.” At this point, I’m infatuated with the idea of using my existing (enormous) pile of flannel receiving blankets as flat diapers, then making knitted wool pull-up covers. I’m obviously losing my mind.

Cloth diapers are great and look so darn cute, but if you don’t get the right kind they can be downright uncomfortable. I like Our Green House’s Organic Fitted Cloth Diaper myself. I link to several providers in my sidebar as well if your looking for a better fit.

You crack me up. I tried the cloth diaper route for about a month (someone got me a service as a gift) but no matter how much I care for the enviroment, I love’d my baby’s butt even more and disposables were best for that reason.

I was dressed in cloth diapers as a baby. As you can see, I turned out okay (oh wait, i take that back…I’m not okay…but it’s not the diapers fault!). I think it’s great that you’re considering cloth diapers. It seems that Maya’s body is hard to fit into the standard disposables (her tummy doesn’t seem as big and round as most baby’s; maybe that’s why the waist never fits, but the legs are too tight?), so it’s likely she’d be more comfortable in cloth ones.

And cloth diapers make great cleaning cloths once you’re past the diaper stage! :)
