To Blog or Not To Blog?

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve seriously considered starting a second blog — one that would focus on what’s on my mind, my thoughts on life, and the mess that is (well, will be) dating as a single mother…assuming I ever actually start dating. I have such mixed feelings about it.

On the one hand, starting a second journal — one that I could keep mostly anonymous — would be freeing. I could write about anyone and anything, without the worry that friends or family might take offense. It would keep this blog more purely a blog for Maya.

On the other hand, life is LIFE. It’s messy. It’s real. Is there any reason that I shouldn’t just let it loose? I fear that if I took the “reality” moments away from this blog (like this one, or maybe this one), it would become a little too perfect and Stepford. Ugh…don’t want that.

Thoughts or comments anyone?

Hi Allison,

I think you have a lot to say and there is much going on in your soul. I would love to see what you have to share with the world. WE can all benefit from your heart written in words. It may be a great place to explore what is going on inside you with others. You could have a blog that is anonymous and no one would know who the author is…. just a thought.

Alli,

Having had a rough time the past week myself, and weighing this decision myself…I definitely see arguments both ways. Of course, you could always set up an anonymous blog and then tell the people who can “handle” it what the address is. Kind of a “best of both worlds”. I know I love reading your blog and I think you do really well at keeping a good rounded perspective on life and the situations.

Just wanted to offer my thoughts.

Dana

I am one for letting it all hang out. But yeah, you might have to go the two blog route. If you do, let me know!

I blog keeping my real identity totally hidden. Although, my wife knows about it. If you go the anonymous route, I’d really appreciate a discrete email about it. I enjoy your writing very much.
