Six-Month Checkup

People look at Maya and say “WOW, she is SO alert! How old is she?” When I tell them she’s six months old, they’re usually stunned…theyd’ figured her for THREE. Nevermind that her height would have her off the charts tall for three months!

Maya about to grow out of 3-6 month
jammies…in length, anyway

Speaking of six months, we finally did her checkup a week late yesterday:

Weight: 12 pounds, 6 ounces (below 5%)
Height: 25.25 inches (30%)
Head: 15.75 inches (below 5%)

Her curves for all three are leveling off, and I asked especially about whether her height drop was a concern. My Pedi tells me that it’s a classic “breast-fed-baby” curve, so no worries at all, and that on top of that, “you’re no amazon yourself.”

Other things:

A week or so ago, I completely quit solids after it seemed like Maya had a reaction when she ate some yogurt. The doc agrees that the strawberries were likely the culprit in the yogurt, no big deal to try yogurt (and other foods) again — but to leave strawberries until after one year. I told her that Maya is VERY interested in my food, but not so much in baby food, and she laughed. “No rush,” she said, “She has the rest of her life to eat.” Have I mentioned that I LOVE my pediatrician?

The rash from earlier in the week has faded now, replaced by a nasty diaper rash which I (late to the game) realized was yeast. She was way better yesterday after some probiotics, but still needs to do them for another couple days. I SERIOUSLY recommend this stuff for anyone with yeast issues. The other night, Maya’s tush was so red and sore that she screamed while I changed her — not angry, just in pain. Gave her the pro-bios and by the next morning, it was about 75% better. The other rash, she agreed looked like it might be eczema, and said to use something like Aquafor on it.

Clay says, “you’re taking
pictures? Take one of ME!”

Milestones - She commented that she wouldn’t be surprised if Maya decides to walk early, considering how quickly she decided that standing was THE only position to be in. God, I hope not…I have so much babyproofing to do! Everything else, she’s running right on schedule, as usual.

I had a question for her about how discolored Maya’s limbs get from time to time, and it turns out she’d already asked a cardiologist about it (we’d discussed this before). His opinion was that it’s an age thing…nothing to worry about. Whew!

I didn’t write my list of questions down, so of course, I forgot one. It seems like I feel Maya’s joints crack a LOT when I pick her up. Anyone know if this is normal?

Sorry, never had the cracking limbs thing that I can recall. But the pictures are adorable!
