Maya’s Many Valentines

Maya with Judy at King Soopers Starbucks
From the time my new local grocery opened in late June, Judy (manager of the Starbucks) followed my pregnancy, and now watches Maya grow. We must visit each shopping trip, or I’m in trouble! Judy’s one of the people who can ALWAYS, without exception get Maya to smile, coo, and giggle. For Valentines Day, we stopped by to bring our friends at Starbucks some homemade iced butter cookies.

Maya with Glenda Miller
We were in the neighborhood, so we stopped by to say hello to Glenda, my boss from my former real estate team, New Home Connection. Maya loves seeing her “grandma” Glenda. (She has many “grandmas” - can you tell?) She also loves her thumb, a new thing in the past few weeks…

Diaper Woes

Well, I got my sampling of a few diapers from a friend over the weekend, and after trying some out, decided to buy a package of Huggies Supreme. In a size 2, all that was available was the small package of 40-something diapers. BTW…how the HELL do they name diaper packages anyway? The small package is Jumbo, for crying out loud?!? Anyway…

During the test run, both times she had the HS on, she pooped, and it seemed to do fine. She didn’t, however, use one of them overnight. No big deal — that’s never been a problem for us. Whoops.

Maya woke me up at 5am (which would have been impressive if she’d been asleep earlier than 11:30…dinner at the parents’ threw her off), and when I picked her up, she was SOAKED. The bed was SOAKED. What wasn’t soaked? The diaper. It’s like the diaper absorbed nothing, and it just ran out. My guess is that the diapers are perfectly fine, just still too big for her skinny legs. *sigh* So, we’ll get some Swaddlers (which we DID use for overnight just fine) and try the HS again when she’s bigger, I guess.

Of course, bleary-eyed at 5am, I didn’t pay attention when I took the diaper off Maya, and between then and pulling out a new one…she soaked the changing table too. *sigh* We’re doing laundry this morning…ya think?

Maya still seems so tiny to me, it’s hard to believe she really was THAT much tinier once upon a time.

Left: 1 week old. Right: 20 weeks (4-1/2 months) old.

It’s not often we get photos of Maya and me together…here, she’s intently looking at something…

What is it, girlie?

For some reason, the dogs she sees every day have suddenly become fascinating.

Maya Meets Aidan

My friend Isaac was in town this weekend, so we went to the home of some of his friends for dinner. Their son, Aidan, is 3 months older than Maya.

They don’t look entirely happy about it, but both kidlets finally looked at the camera at the same time (a small miracle).

Who *is* that cute blondie boy over there, Maya wonders…

New Camera - Artsy shots

The Olympus D-390 (cheapie) I’ve been using decided to kick it yesterday, so I went shopping. God forbid I’m without a camera for even a few days! After reviewing what Consumer Reports had to say and deciding what features I wanted, I bought a Canon A75 — an inexpensive, yet good-quality 3.2MP camera. Still learning all the features, so these aren’t as sharp as they could be, but we’ll get there. In the meantime, I can do black & white now!

Baby Incognito

Miss Maya spins on the ground like a breakdancer, eluding the vicious Fisher-Price Kick-n-Drive (see where the feet go?)

This is the typical spot where her bib winds up at some point. She’s a fan of going incognito. Note how short the cardigan she’s wearing has gotten - it hits her in the ribs! Time to consider yet another piece of clothing outgrown. Of course, all the six month stuff swallows her, but at least it’s LONG enough.

Photo proof that yes, I AM getting back in shape. Still a ways to go (10-15 to pre-preg, 25 ’til goal)…but I’m making progress, yay!
